Oocyte Pick-up (Oocyte Retrieval)

Oocyte pick-up procedure is performed under short-term general anesthesia, through the vagina (vaginal route) and under the guidance of ultrasonography. Patients are requested to attent to the center fasting and thirsty on the procedure day since they will be anasthetized. They can go home following 1-2 hours of rest after the procedure. Working women may start work on the next day following a half-day home rest. Although the waist and inguinal pain are mild, they will last for a few days. It is similar to premenstrual pain.

At the same time, medications that will prepare the uterus for embryo transfer are initiated. Some of these drugs may be in the form of suppository, some of them may be in the form of pills, some of them may be in the form of injection or gel.

You will be informed about how many occytes are retrieved after the procedure. After the retrieved oocytes are rested for 1-2 hours, they are taken into IVF or Microinjection process.
